Mystery: Its Looks Like a Tiny Dragon Who Lives in a Cave!

Dragons may not be real but they’ve have captured humanity’s imagination for generations. Almost any person would be excited to see a real-life dragon but sadly they can only be encountered in fiction. What if we told you that there’s a rare creature that comes close to these mythical creatures? Meet the olm, a tiny dragon-like creature that lives in caves deep underground.

An olm or proteus anguinus is an aquatic salamander that can be seen exclusively in the caves of Europe. It’s especially found in the Dinaric Alps, mountain ranges which stretch from Italy to Slovenia. According to Edge of Existence.org, the olm can survive without food for up to 10 years and can live up to a hundred years. The creature is a part of an ancient lineage of amphibians evolving independently for 190 million years. This rare species is currently under threat caused by pollution and habitat disturbance.

Southern Slovenia’s Soča River basin is where these strange creatures can be found. Locals have nicknamed them “human fish” because their skin looks more like a human’s than an amphibian’s. An olm can grow up to 25 – 35 centimeters long. One of their most noticeable features is their gills, which can be seen sticking out of their head. These tiny salamanders spend their whole lives underwater thanks to their gills.

All olms are albino creatures. They sport no pigments because their subterranean habitat has no light coming from the outside. These unusual creatures are also mute and blind, again, due to their dark underground environment. They find their way around the dark using so-called electroreceptors. These allow them to detect the electric fields emitted by other animals. With their long body and tiny arms and legs, they look just like baby dragons!

"Human snak" teen who sheds her skin every six weeks because of ultra-rare condition to get miracle treatment

Shalini Yadav, 16, has to have a bath 24 times a day and slather herself with moisturiser to stop her skin from hardening and seizing up

A 'human snake' who sheds her skin every six weeks due to an ultra-rare condition is hoping for a miracle treatment in Europe.

The horrific disorder has left 16-year-old Shalini Yadav unable to walk without a stick or straighten her limbs.

She has to have a bath 24 times a day and slathers herself with moisturiser to stop her skin from hardening and seizing up.

Her family are so poor they haven't been able to afford any specialist treatment to ease her ailments so local fundraisers have alerted hospitals around the world - including one in Spain who has now agreed to treat Shalini for free.

The delighted teenager from Nowgong town in Chattarpur district of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, will fly to Spain tomorrow (Sat) for treatment.

She said: "I was very excited to learn that we'd be going to Spain.

"I have seen the place in an Indian TV show - now I will actually get to see it."

Doctors have diagnosed Shalini with Erythroderma, an inflammatory skin disease also known as 'red man syndrome', but were unable to treat it.

It causes the skin over almost the entire body to become scaly and flake off and Shalini has shed her skin every 45 days since she was born.

She has to soak her body in water every hour - night and day - and smear herself with lotion every three hours to prevent drying out.

Her desperate mother Devkunwar said: "I feel so helpless when I see her skin coming off, causing excruciating pain to my child.

"This disease is not killing her but taking her life bit by bit.

"We have no idea where to go to and who to consult."

Devkunwar, a carer in a state-funded community centre, is so heart-broken she says death would be kinder to her daughter.

She added: "It is better to die than living a life of misery."

Shalini's two siblings Sejal, 15, and Price, eight, are normal with no such complication.

Her father Rajbahadur, a daily wage worker, said: "It's really sad because she was not born normally and has scaly skin all over her body.

"It is similar to being severely burnt, from the sole of her feet to her head."

Shalini got help after India-based press agency Newslions, run by Sanjay Pandey, highlighted her plight, who have also helped pay for additional expenses.

She is being treated for free at Regional University Hospital and Virgen de la Victoria of Malaga.

Rajbahadur added: "I am very grateful for all that the hospital from Spain is offering.

"Without their help and Mr Pandey's support, my daughter would never get a shot at leading a normal life."

Sanjay, who is travelling with the family, said: "The ideas is to improve her quality of life so that she can straighten her legs and so on.

"Doctors say she should be able to walk without stick after the treatment."

Mysterious Invasive Pacu Fish With Human-Like Teeth Found in New Jersey

A relative of the piranhas with a mythical taste for human flesh was found in a New Jersey lake this weekend, setting off fears about the spread of invasive species.

The fish, thought to be a South American pacu, is known for its teeth, which bear an eerie resemblance to human teeth. Pacus primarily eat plants and are considered mostly harmless to people, despite their kinship with piranhas. But they do occasionally eat other fish and can potentially outcompete native species or spread parasites or disease. (See the scariest freshwater fish.)

Pacus normally ply the waters of the Amazon and other South American river systems, but angler Ron Rossi caught one in Swedes Lake in southern New Jersey over the weekend.

The state’s Department of Environmental Protection said in a statement: "Many times, these fish are deposited into lakes by pet owners. These fish do not survive in colder water, so we encourage people not to release it into the wild but to humanely destroy the fish."

Pacus are often kept as aquarium pets, though they can grow too large for many people to take care of, at 44 pounds (20 kilos) and three feet (one meter) long. The specimen found in New Jersey appears to be only a few inches long, based on a photo.

SHOCKING MYTH

Pacu have a bad reputation online, where many people believe they bite human testicles, allegedly confusing them with tree nuts. The fears have been so widespread that some officials have even suggested men swim with their bathing suits tightly tied.

There are a few reported incidents of pacus biting people, but fears that they target human beings are overblown, says Peter Rask Møller, a fish expert at Denmark's University of Copenhagen.

"Its teeth and powerful bite can for sure be dangerous, but to [have it bite you] is highly unlikely," says Møller.

Local people blamed invasive pacu for the deaths of two men in New Guinea in 2011, after they reportedly lost their testicles, but information on the alleged incident is scarce and secondhand. (Learn about a car-sized freshwater stingray.)

"I think it's just a rumor," Lars Skou Olsen, curator of Copenhagen's Blue Planet Aquarium, said in 2013 about the pacu’s alleged taste for testicles, after one of the fish was found in Denmark.

"Pacu are not dangerous to humans," says fish biologist and National Geographic explorer Zeb Hogan, who studies the animals at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Pacus have appeared in Arizona, Michigan, and other places, but they pose a greater threat to ecosystems than to human bathers.

"In many places, it is illegal to release exotic species like pacu, so aquarium owners should take the time to educate themselves about the requirements necessary to keep the fish they buy," says Hogan.

But fish’s testicle-eating reputation is a myth, scientists say.

Must See 120-Year-Old Woman Shares Her Secret to Living a Long Life

As humans, most of us only live up to a certain age. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) claims that the average life expectancy of a human being is up to 71.4 years. However, there are people who are lucky enough to live their lives up to 100 years old.

One woman though recently just celebrated her 120th birthday and is now sharing the secret to her long life.

According to the Guinness World Records, the oldest person ever reached the age of 117 years old. Sadly, the woman, named Violet Mosse-Brown, passed away on September 15 which is why the title for the oldest living person has been transferred to 117-year-old Nabi Tajima of Japan. Recently though, the GMA show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” featured a woman who claims to be currently 120 years old.

Francisca Susano, or more commonly known as “Lola Isca“, celebrated her 120th birthday on September 11. She was born in 1897 and is currently residing in Negros Occidental.

The woman is said to be older than the declaration of the Philippine Independence itself, which was ratified in June 12, 1898. Aside from the country’s sovereignty, the 120-year-old woman is also older than the teddy bear, the airplane, and the traffic light, which were invented in 1902, 1903, and 1912 respectively.

According to the report, Lola Isca could still play the silindro (a musical instrument similar to a harmonica) despite her old age. She is also still capable of dancing to her favorite tunes and still has a sharp memory as if she were only in her 30s or 40s. The old woman claims that being a vegetarian is the secret to her long and fruitful life.

Lola Isca is now the oldest woman in Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental. Even though she isn’t the official holder of the oldest person title, she might actually be the oldest person living in the world as we speak.

CCTV FOTAGE: World champion powerlifter killed by MMA fighter in brutal street fight

HORRIFIC CCTV footage captured the moment a professional powerlifter suffered fatal head injuries during a violent street brawl.

The Russian world champion died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

The deadly fight – early on Sunday morning – was caught on CCTV.

In the shocking clip, Drachyov is seen bare-chested as he fights with other men outside a café in Khabarovsk, southwest Russia.

The 22-year-old’s opponent – who appeared to be a trained MMA fighter – brought down the powerlifter with a fearsome roundhouse kick.

Drachyov was able to get up before he received another kick to the head, sending him crashing into the pavement.

His killer then delivered several brutal blows to his head before security guards from the café broke up the fight.

The brawl is believed to have started when the pair argued over which of their respective sports was more physically demanding.

A police spokesman said: “The brawl between the two visitors of the cafe located in the centre of Khabarovsk took place at around 7am on August 20.

“The victim died in hospital due to the injuries he suffered. According to preliminary data, the cause of death was a craniocerebral injury.”

The suspect has been named as Anar Allakhveranov, who allegedly fled the scene and has been placed on a wanted list.

A case under “deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm, which caused the death of the victim by negligence” has been launched against him.

Drachyov was the junior powerlifting world champion in 2008 and took the silver world championship medal at senior level in 2011.

He recently switched to bodybuilding, claiming the Far Eastern Federal District Cup earlier this year.

The head of Russia's powerlifting organization, Yury Ustinov, said: “I’m very upset, first of all, because the life of a young man has ended and also because we’ve lost a promising athlete.

“I’d like our law enforcers to get to the bottom of this and deliver a punishment to those responsible.”

Is Kris Aquino Going to Be the New Co-Host of Willie Revillame In ‘Wowowin’?

We all know former Kapamilya celebrity Kris Aquino as the “Queen of All Media.” She got her title from being able to venture into movies, television series, talk shows, and game shows. Now, she even has a web series of her own. Recently though, when Kris decided to move to ABS-CBN’s rival network, GMA, we have not seen her on TV for quite some time. However, our days of waiting may finally be coming to an end.

In a recent Instagram post by the 46-year-old star, she shared to her followers the meeting she had with Wowowin host Willie Revillame and his staff.

She wrote, “I had a productive 5 hour meeting w/ my future BOSS and his core staff. Exciting times ahead. Good night.”

Could this mean that she will be the new co-host of the show since Willie’s previous co-host, Super Tekla has been fired while Donita Nose is rumored to be leaving as well?

Meanwhile, talent manager and now business manager of Kris, Arnold Vegafria, also posted the same photo and wrote “A productive meeting with @krisaquino @willierevillame”.

In an article published by Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), the meeting happened on August 24, at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City.

The story further states that there is no confirmation as of the moment on whether Kris will indeed be the new co-host or not.

However, she repeatedly mentioned in the past that she will no longer return to her home network, ABS-CBN.

Aside from that, Kris also posted a photo on her Instagram on August 16. Her post reads: “Make more moves and less announcements. #bossbabe” and “Says it all… Be back SOON…”

Is she giving out clues that she will finally be returning to our local TV screens?

Whether Kris is indeed making a comeback or not, she will never lose her title as the “Queen of All Media.”
